As a member of the design team for two on-campus magazines, I am responsible for designing spreads and occasionally corresponding graphics for web and social media. Both magazines offer lots of creative freedom, so I am able to have fun creating unique and engaging spreads.
"The Impact of What You Wear" | Woof Magazine, Fall 2020
After speaking with the writer of the article, we decided that the tone for both the article and design should be upbeat, despite the negative topic. We wanted people to feel empowered to make better shopping decisions after reading it, as opposed to feeling concerned and helpless. To accomplish this, I used bright colors and fun, bold shapes.
I also designed a banner to be used if the article is posted online and a social media graphic to promote the article on Instagram.
"What TF Happened to the Black Eyed Peas?" | Tastemakers Magazine, Spring 2020
For this design, I was inspired by the album design for the Black Eyed Peas' album THE E.N.D. (THE ENERGY NEVER DIES). I drew upon the black and green color scheme and techno-inspired feel. I also added an old iPod nano as a reference to the era during which the Black Eyed Peas were most popular, which was something that the article focused on.
"Journey to the Past: Our Favorite Animated Movie Soundtracks" | Tastemakers Magazine, Fall 2020
This article focused on different movies and their soundtracks, and since there was not a ton of body text, I was able to take over the spread with my design. I did illustrations based off each movie and added hand lettered subtitles that I did on my iPad for each section. My goal was to imitate a playful, childhood aesthetic in the colors, illustrations, and lettering.
